Dick Barber

I’m Dick Barber, a native of North Carolina, married to Jane, father of two girls, who have four children, and I have been with Morris Insurance Agency for over 47 years. I love living in Washington.

I am one of the original members of Church of the Good Shepherd, and have volunteered as a leader and trustee from its inception. It’s hard to put into words how things have evolved over the years, but being part of our church family is one of the main reasons that allows me to say, “I’m the richest man in town”.

Bo Brooks

I am Bo Brooks, married to Billie and father of a son named Hatteras. My family loves the folks of COGS and have for a long time.

We love how our souls feel after a morning of worship with our friends and family. We love the Jesus that lives inside us, and the opportunity to share that journey with others. I also am passionate about fishing! Toadfish are the fishing rod of choice.

Leanne Lee

Hello! My name is Leanne Lee and I am from Garner, NC. However, I call Washington home as well. My husband and I met in college and I never went back. I am married to a good ole’ boy, Beaufort County-born and -bred. Together, we have three wonderful children—Miller, Maddox, and Cate Calloway Lee. We spend our time with family, friends, and eating well. My favorite thing, apart from them, is food. I plan each meal while eating one. :)

Church of the Good Shepherd is home. When we were visiting different churches, this was the one place we literally felt the Holy Spirit. My favorite thing about time spent at COGS is seeing familiar faces—and always new faces, too. I love to envision my children getting married in this garage. It’s simple and filled with love, just like our Savior. The place where our spirit and body are fed weekly. WE welcome YOU!

Michael Lee

My name is Michael Lee. I’ve been here my whole life and there’s no other place I call home. Beaufort County has all I will ever need. When I’m not working or spending time with my family, I’m outside enjoying the great outdoors.

Church of the Good Shepherd means so much to our family and our community. It’s a place where all are welcome and you’re family the moment you walk in the door. The church’s no-fuss, simple understanding of Jesus, church, and community are what draw you in, and it’s the folks trying to live that out together who bring you back.

Tomp Litchfield

I grew up in Washington, graduated from NC State, and began to sell real estate in Raleigh, NC. I was engaged to Martha Ann Stroud from Greensboro five weeks after our first date, and she remains a true gift from our Lord. We returned to Washington in 1977, and I went to work with my dad and brother at Moss Planing Mill Co. until 1992. I reengaged in selling real estate in 1992 by joining the team of The Rich Company, and retired in 2018.

Our family was a member of St. Peters Episcopal Church, but we realized the services were not meeting our spiritual needs. We, along with other couples, started a “house church,” and over some years it grew into The Church of the Good Shepherd. It is there that I experience the presence of the Holy Spirit every time I drive onto the property. I cherish the fact that no two services are alike. In most of our Sunday sermons, I feel like Jay Martin (our minister) is pointing to me during his message, making me realize the importance of having the power of the Holy Spirit living and dwelling in me. I invite all to join us for Sunday worship at 10:10 a.m.

Roy Parker

My name is Roy L. Parker, Washington native and graduate of East Carolina University. My entire professional career has been in the financial services industry. I am married to Missy, my beautiful wife of 25 years, and we are blessed with two great young men—Blake (22) and Graham (19). My passions outside of growing people’s wealth are fishing, college football/basketball and supporting our local youth. I serve on both the Young Life executive committee and the Bright Futures of Beaufort County board.

Why do I attend COGS? It all started when my oldest, Blake, was 15, and one night at the dinner table he asked if we had to keep attending our previous church, and if we could try COGS, where his Young Life friends go. He had visited once or twice and really enjoyed Jay’s sermons. Seven years later I can’t imagine going anywhere else. Missy and I have fallen in love with the people, the place and most important, the message being preached.

Heather Perry

I was born in Beaufort County, but moved away as a child and then back again after marrying my absolute better half of 28 years. We are grateful to have a senior son and a sophomore daughter, both in college. We work in transportation together, and most days it runs us, rather than the opposite.

We came to the Church of the Good Shepherd many years ago after a good friend said, “You have to check this place out!” He was right. COGS is special. It is a place of belonging and friendship and family. As I see it, our goal is simply to love others well, locally and globally, financially and socially, while sharing a biblical gospel. It is my privilege to be a part.

Joe Taylor

I am known as “Big Joe” by five grandchildren and my wife, Mayi. I have been in the Good Shepherd community from the beginning. It’s been a blessing to watch our church family grow in learning God’s word and sharing our spiritual journey.
